Since the opening of its doors in September of 2002, Southside Academy Charter School has maintained vibrant relationships with a number of community organizations throughout our city. Our long-standing relationship with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America has had a positive impact in steering our students toward productive and practical activities, both inside and outside of school.
Our commitment to enriching the cultural values of our students is also evident in our more recent collaborations and partnerships. For instance, our student chess club has established an ongoing relationship with the Syracuse Southwest Community Center. In April of this year, Southside Academy’s Chess Team hosted its very first city-wide chess tournament in their facility. During the year’s holiday season, Southside Academy’s Student Choir performed in a series of Christmas concerts at various nursing and senior citizens homes throughout Syracuse.
Southside Academy has successfully integrated an early exposure college program within its after-school program. This newly initiated program is supported by student volunteers from Syracuse University and operates under the name of “Go to School - Go to College.” Due to the tremendous social value intrinsic in many of these community programs, Southside Academy Charter School will continue to expand and to explore ways to involve our students.
